Summary
|
The House, built in 1656 out of stone and
wood, and tells about the many families and events that have occurred within
and around its walls. The story begins
with its walls collapsing and children finding it and using it for play. Then over the years it is rebuilt and many
happy and sad occasions take place.
Eventually the walls again deteriorate and the house is left
empty. Many years pass when a new
family see potential in the land upon which the house stands. The house is pushed away and a new home stands. The book is written in poetry as the house
talking about its experiences.

Summary
|
David Almond write this book from a little
boys point of view. The boy has just
moved into a new to him old house.
There are so many changes that he is not excited about, including a
new baby sibling. The house that he has moved into has so much work to be
done and his parents bought it with all intentions in making it a family
home, until the new baby comes early.
The garage is left with odd and ends piled up, dust, and cobwebs. His mother and father both warn him to stay
away as it is too dangerous until they have time to clean it out. His curiosity gets to him and he discovers
a being hiding behind stacked chests.
He was shocked that he was still alive. It consumes his life while in the house. They become friends amidst the chaos of the
boys home life.
