Summary
|
Gary Paulsen does an excellent job in this
book describing the life on a farm in northern Minnesota. The narrator Uncle David, grew up in the
30’s and describes the events to his nephews, Eldon and Wayne, and other family
members. The stories are told in the
winter room. The room is only used during the winter months. The stories told by Uncle David are so
imaginable that the boys doubt the truth behind them. The story that changes everything is called
“The Woodcutter”. The story told by
Uncle David changes the family for the better.

Usage with students
|
This book would be a great resource for
character analysis or theme. There are
so many important characters that change the whole plot of the story. The setting of the story is one to look in
to and compare to today’s farm living.
