Summary
|
The book
begins with a little boy wondering where his father is and when he will
return. He asks his mother, but she
does not know either. To pass the time
mom asks the little boy to take a cake to his Grandma. To get to her house he must go through the
forest. He has been to Grandma’s house
many times going the long way around, but today he decides to take the
shorter route. He wants to get back
home quick in case his father returns.
On his way on the short route he meets several characters that try to
get him to venture off from his task.
He is determined to get to Grandma’s and avoids them. The travel starts to get cold and he comes
to a red jacket hanging from the tree. He puts it on and things something is
following him. He ventures off from the
path and runs deeper into the forest.
Finally he reaches Grandma’s house.
When he knocks on the door, he hears a strange voice. When he comes in he sees Grandma and his
father. He is so excited to be back
with his dad. He and his dad return
home to the loving arms of his mother.
They are a family again.
